I am going to China and staying for 2 nights in Beijing, how can I get just 2 night cheap hotel? is there such a thing as motels? Is it save to stay in any cheap hotel?
Try www.asia-hotels.com. Also Motel 8 has hotels in Beijing. My friend stayed there and was satisfied. The location was good. She definitely felt safe.
The Lonely Planet also lists good, cheap hotels. The one I stayed in 5 years ago did have bugs and was out of the way. So I don’t recommend that one. We were safe though.
There are youth hostels as well.

The Motel concept in China does not really mean Motor-Hotel. It means "low priced" hotels. There are relatively good "motels" like Motel168, RuJia, JinJiang Star, Accor IBIS etc. Clean rooms, clean towels and very cheap (about 200Yuan per night, i.e. 25 US Dollars)
You can also book online via "http://english.ctrip.com/" website.

Motel 168 is definately a great option.. They have branches every where. but just to warn you. The bed is like stone. Normally I would get 3-4 more quilts to line ontop of the bed to give a cushion feel. If not I could not have slept at all.
Good luck!

Hostels are the best bet for price.

Go to the Downtown Backpackers. It is essentially located in the City Center, in a Hutong (a chinese alley/ neighborhood) just North of the Forbidden City (essentially city central) The Hutong is a bustling place of live culture you can feel.
There are motels in Beijing, but this Backpacker place is a hostel. Many have proclaimed it as, "A home away from home." The staff are great, very knowledgable, and see to it that everything is in order. They can pick you up at the airport as long as you pay the toll fee. The only downside is the manager is a jerk who quietly hates Americans (ironic as it may be, but you’ll hardly see him, if at all). There is a great cafe next door which connects to the hostel. The food is good too.
Travelers are starting to book this place quickly and it will be mentioned in the next lonely planet as one of the top rated places to stay in Beijing as the next publication rolls out for the 08 Olymipics. This will truly be your gateway into Beijing.
You’re sure to meet tons of friends and great people.
As in any hostel, make sure your belongings and valuables are secure. Prices range from abour 4 USD per dormitory room to 20 USD for a single. I was in the the dormitory to meet people.
Have fun!
